As some of you know, I was and am an avowed proponent of the 9/11 First Responders Bill, which was passed in late December of last year. This bill gave medical compensation to the firefighters, paramedics, and police officers who rummaged through thousands of pounds of rubble and hundreds of victims during the 9/11 terrorist attacks. And when the bill, which took 9 years to pass, was approved, it was seen as a victory for these national heroes. But there was something that I, and many others didn't know.Yesterday, it came to mine and the American people's attention that, even though the law covers the oh so horrendous conditions of, Chronic Cough, Chronic Laryngitis, and Carpel Tunnel, the Democrats, in order for Republicans to vote for the bill, had to take out one simple disease. Cancer. For Republicans, Cancer was the deal-breaker. But not to fret, all that has to happen is, there has to be a proven link between Cancer and digging through the remains of the World Trade Center. This testing could take up to 6 years. These tests will take up quite a bit of time, and this is time that our nation's heroes don't have. The worst case scenario, the absolute worst case would be that we accidentally treat the Cancer of a 9/11 first responder who's Cancer's origin was never proven. I don't care if they got stomach cramps, they were there, they got Cancer,we treat it.
